1000 St. Stephen is crowned with a crown from the Pope
1241-42 The Mongols ruin the country
1250-1300 Parliament grows in power and begins to influence legislation
1446-1453 Janos Hunyadi, governor of Hungary, protects the country successfully from the Ottoman Empire
1456 Janos Hunyadi relieves Belgrade from the Ottomans
1458-1490 King Matthias Corvinus the Just (son of Janos Hunyadi) reigns
1526 The Ottomans annihilite the Hungarian Army at Mohacs
1552 Istvan Dobo, captain of Eger holds the castle against the Ottomans
1686 Buda retaken from the Ottomans
1703-11 Unsuccessful war for Liberty led by Ferenc Rakoczi II against the Habsburg Empire
